From Physio to Tech Founder: Why Clinics Need Better Practice Management Software

Every clinic owner has thought it: “If only I could build my own software to run this place.” Few ever act on it. Alex Forde did. She’s a physio, pharmacist, MBA graduate, and now the founder of Pogozo — a practice management software (PMS) designed by a clinician, for clinicians.

In Part A of our interview, Alex shares her founder arc: early private practice, pharmacy + MBA, opening her own clinic during COVID — and discovering how disconnected systems drain profit, waste time, and drive burnout. Her story shows why clinic owners must simplify PMS and embrace automation to protect staff and patients alike.

The Founder Journey

Alex began in private practice in 2008. Hungry to learn, she added an MBA and even pharmacy to understand chronic pain patients better. That drive to fill knowledge gaps is the same mindset that pushed her into entrepreneurship.

When COVID hit, she scaled her clinic and added a CrossFit gym. That’s when the cracks in existing practice management systems became too obvious to ignore.

The Pain of 12 Systems

Her clinic ran on twelve different tools: bookings, classes, invoicing, email, SMS, and more — none of them integrated. Costs rose, admin doubled, staff burned out. When she asked existing PMS providers for solutions, the answer was: “Not on the roadmap.”

That was the turning point. Alex decided to build Pogozo — a simplified, automated PMS that actually supports allied-health clinics. If you’re considering a switch yourself, make sure you read our Practice Management Software Migration Checklist to plan it properly.

Why Simplifying PMS Matters

PMS is more than scheduling. Done right, it reduces admin, accelerates billing, and improves both patient and provider UX. Alex’s story proves the cost of clunky systems — and how automation helps clinics reclaim profit and energy.

In Part B we dig into how Pogozo automates memberships, invoicing, and communication — plus where AI is heading for allied-health clinics.
